Always good to see you posting around here, Meep. The Chief/Cortana on the Forward Unto Dawn thing has been done before, but you nailed it here. Right away I started unconsciously comparing it to Human Weakness, and you got the Chief/Cortana relationship where Traviss never did. I've only a minor complaint or two, the first being that another memory would've been nice, and the second being that you clearly missed a chance to make a 'dust and echoes' nod to CE. That's forgivable since you referenced Never Forgotten, though.
Anyways, excellent work. _________________

Sad, but so good.
I wonder, though: what happened to the Chief at the end there? Did Cortana wake him up and set him free, or did she kill him? It's a little ambiguous, and if it's supposed to be, then I completely understand. (I, unlike some people, wasn't upset by the end of Inception.) _________________ Superstite es non sole;

Thanks everyone for taking the time to post; if there's one thing I like, it's feedback on my work!
kr1324698346983632342:
I deliberately avoided the dust and echoes reference; I don't feel like I deserve to use something that, well, good. In hindsight though, since Cortana said it the first time, it would've been quite appropiate.
Cpn.Raspberry:
Well, it wasn't entirely ambiguous. Kind of. The idea is that the Chief will never die, since he will never be forgotten by Cortana, so I didn't want to rock the boat by saying he was dead outright.
Physically, though, he's dead as a nail. It's been over 1,100 years after all. I doubt cryogenic suspension could keep someone alive for more than a couple of centuries, and even then I think they'd come out a vegetable. |
