So what format should we use to type this. For example should the font be 12 or 14, and should it be double spaced or single spaced.

12 pt double spaced is good, and the font doesn't really matter as long as it's readable.

Yes, font shouldn't be a huge problem, because in the accepted formats, a new font or size can easily be chosen with a quick highlight. But something professional looking at first would definitely make your story more respectable. Size 8 KidPrint, anyone?

When you say artistic liberties, how for beyond 'reality' can we go? Obviously it can't be ridiculous but could hunters speak human languages, etc?

That might be pushing it a little, but... Well, if it's well-done we probably won't mind too much. It isn't so much how much you deviate from canon as how well you deviate from canon. If you can make talking hunters make sense in the context of your story, then good on you and I look forward to reading it (if it gets chosen to win, or if you post it on this site after the contest). Just try to keep it plausible, ok?

Ok, say we already have ODST preordered, but we still want to enter this, is there a chance we could get the people over at HBO, Bungie, or some other place to sign it make it really special.

And can it be a bit over 6000 words because after writing a few Game Reviews, 6000 words comes quite easily.?

kabu says: Sure, more than 6000 words works fine - if it's good, of course Razz . We were mostly interested in keeping it above the minimum, really. We can substitute XBL points for the games, and as Trooper says we are trying to get something special out of Bungie or HBO, but no luck so far.

We've planned on getting one of the Halo novel authors involved in the contest, but it didn't turn out the way we wanted to among community objections and Greg Bear's unwillingness to reply to our invitation. Stephen Loftus from HBO, however, is part of the judging board.

It's not a bad idea, but we need to consider a maximum word length suitable for all types of writers: new and experienced. Pushing it a bit over 6000 seems reasonable to me, though. Kabu?

Sure, over 6000 words is perfectly fine. And I'm editing the topic post - we can substitute extra XBL points for the game if people want, as well as action figures.

We also want to get signed stuff from bungie, but no luck so far.

Well, I think you should further discussions with Wu if we want to get signed stuff from Bungie, since he's our only real link to them. Who knows, he may even have some remaining stuff from last year's giveaway.

In the emails, this is what Louis Wu said -

So, it looks like we shouldn't count on it, but it may be possible. Maybe.

Alright cool. I won't switch it out for points if there is that chance that I win. I love to keep unopened games as keep sakes.

That'd be a lot of MS points... I've mentioned this before, but what about just reimbursing them for their purchase of ODST?

I know that if you get first or second you get some MS Points and Halo 3 ODST. How will you give out Halo 3 ODST? The MS Points you could give the code over a XBL message.

How soon will you be done with the judging? I know it probably has to do with how many entries you receive. But I, like I'm sure a lot of people here, have ODST pre-ordered.
