This is how you can go about using the code. It's similar to the code on the forum.

WARNING:
HTML is no longer available to use to format stories. Anything inbetween squarebrackers, or anglebrackets will be automatically removed from each story. <Consequently, if I submitted this blue line, it would disappear >

Code:
[b]this[/b]

turns into...
this

and same with...

Code:
[i]this[/i]

turns into...
this

Code:
[u]this[/u]

turns into...
this

and lastly,
Code:
[indent]this

will turn into...

Code:
             this

WARNING:
If you place the indent above the line, it will disappear and become invisible.
Code:
[indent]
this

Will turn into...
Code:

this

also, the [hr] tag will create a line that automatically-self adjusts to the pagewidth. It looks very professional, and if you ever have author's notes or personal notes and such, then feel free to use them. Or if you're switching and making transitions in the story, well, that's what they're there for!

Also, here's a little trick that I've been known to use. I use MS word's highlight/different text/bold function to do this handy trick.

(SPACES IN THE TAGS ARE FOR DEMONSTRATION ONLY. IN REALITY, SPACES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE BBCODE TAGS.)
[ b ]The text goes here. This makes the tags easier to see.[ /b ]

so, what happens is this.

[ b ]This will become bolded...[ /b ] But this will not.
[ i ]This will become italicized...[ /i ] But this will not.
[ u ]This will become underlined...[ /u ] But this will not.

As for the indents, use them when a character begins a new line of speech.

Person one said,
[indent] "This," then paused and said, "this."
Person two replied,
[indent] "This."

Just like that.

Don't forget that tags are 'stack-able' meaning you can have bold and underlined (or any combination of the) text by going like...

Code:
[b][u]this.[/u][/b]

Addendum: One neat little tag that's not always used is your horizontal rule. Now, use these sparingly (for reference, how often do you see the three asterisks '* * *'? Usually at the end of a chapter!) but if you have to, you might want a line to appear across the screen to let the reader know something is changing.

In that case, you can save time and effort by simply appending:

Code:

Text, narration, dialogue, all that sorta stuff...
[hr]
More text, narration, dialogue and all that other sorta stuff...

It's as simple and easy as that!
