Well, I will try, but the last time I entered one of you're contests I got into the final group but was beaten by a Bungie Employee, I sense Joe Staten ftw at the last minute -_-.

You also have to realize that this is the only contest HBOFF has ever hosted.

I thought they hosted the 117 words contest a while back, that's why I joined these forums originally. Or at least I think that's why.

I don't recall HBOFF ever having a contest in which a Bungie employee won. HBO, yes, but we're a little bit separate. Besides, Contact Harvest was far from the best of the Halo novels, if Staten ever entered he might make the top ten but I doubt he'd win.

You do know he wrote a lot of the scripts for Halo 2 and 3 right?

Of course. Script writing and novel writing are two very different arts, though. He's good at the former. The latter, not so much.

Meh, I liked it. Halo isn't really great sci-fi, even the books. But I am definitely going to try my hand at this contest, probably won't win still but I'll try and bring my A game.

Just finished my entry. I'll clean it up and get it to you guys by tomorrow night. Just wondering...should I send an HBO Submission Code-formatted version as well?

Nah. MS Word is fine. Or Open Office, if you're into that sort of thing.

Because it's the last day of the contest, I'm just dropping in to say good luck to all of you that participate in this thing. As for myself, I had roughly two weeks to perfect a 7,000 word submission about the origins of the ODSTs, got about 5,000 words done in the last few days after plotting a short but to-the-point message for the story to convey but the whole thing failed because of the pace and the way it flowed. I backed out since I had virtually no time to repeat the plotting process in favor of a more streamlined story that could pass the word limit, and if it wasn't my best effort, it wouldn't have a place in a contest. So I'm cowering in the apologetic circle of shame's hell, now. Twisted Evil

Anyways, good luck to all of you! Smile

There's no rule where you have to have a minimum number of posts on this forum to be eligible, is there?

Because I joined back in June or July when this contest was front-paged, and just now came back and realized that I've not made a single post here.

It would be rageworthy to find out this whole story I wrote is worthless.

You don't have to be an active member on the boards to be eligible (in fact, you don't have to be a member at all).

We do encourage people to stick around and contribute to the community, though.

I have now sent mine in as well.

I sure hope the judging goes quickly; this is going to eat me up inside!

Yes, that is a good point. In the event we win a place (1st 2nd or 3rd) how will we be alerted?

We have your email addresses, and can PM your account on HBOFF as a backup.
