Way too many of these were too close to call.
I read and re-read some of these pieces because they were so evenly matched I couldn't make up my mind. But here goes anyway.
Honorable Mention: TIE Attack on Installation 06: Part 22 by Jake Trommer
And
The Bright Green Dot: Lead Foil and the Chekhov's Gun Symphony by 4642 Elitist Bastard
Make it tougher to decide, jerks: I thought both of these pieces brought some really strong story elements into the mix. Dot gave us some really strong characters that drove his plot, and Attack gave us moments of cliffhanger drama that felt like a TV episode, keeping you in suspense from one break to the next. In the end, they were both excellent reads and stood out in their particular styles, but they lacked the WHOLE package.
Second Place: Vestal Sins: Chapter One: The First Forty-Eight by Arthur Wellesley
A matter of taste and time: This piece would win on a different week, not because of the competition, because I wasn't ready to be entertained by Arthur's tone this week. This is an AWESOME first chapter of an entirely relevant post-war canon, and I love the characters, the settings, images, etc...I just wanted some comedy. This isn't funny, it's just very, very good. Totally worth your time and the beginning of what will be an excellent, twisting, interesting series.
Fic Pick of the Week: This is What Happens When We Give Them Superpowers - A 'Bad Days' Story by Kabu
Right place, right time: Kabu cleverly keeps his chapters insulated enough that you don't NEED to know what happened in previous chapters, but it certainly helps. It's quick, it's witty, it's irreverent, and it's just damn entertaining to read. Doesn't have the gravitas of Vestal Sins, but if you're looking for an interesting take on Spartans and a very funny scene with a Jackal, you MUST read this.
That's all for me. Transform and roll out. _________________ ...now that's some gritty shizzle.

So close!
Thanks Az, I appreciate the kind words. And congrats to kabu, for a well deserved win.

Hey, this is cool. I'm pretty proud of this one (though it seems that every story I write becomes my favorite).
Congrats to the others too - I'm loving Vestal Sins, btw. _________________
