Not the most terrific week for stories, but the increase in volume is good to see. Hopefully some of the authors stick around, learn a bit, and improve.

Now I was originally leaning toward Phaedrus' "Harold's..." just for the originality, but an interesting take on the story isn't enough for me. Mainevent took the dialog-only approach and did INCREDIBLY original ideas with it (at least, that I had seen in my limited experience), so I'm more wowed by that. That said, Phaedrus did an excellent job with setting good scenes and good characters with dialog only, and that deserves a pat on the back.

Jin's "What if tales" would have taken it home if it had been longer.

But my favorite this week:
"Lost" by kr142616

I thought he set the scene really well with the Marines being chased by the Covenant, and their inabilty escape and establish contact with help was pretty real. I didn't have to suspend disbelief THAT much.

The descriptions of the forerunner structure were pretty accurate, and foreboding enough to get me in the same mood as his characters. The dialog felt natural and moved the story along nicely.

I really enjoyed the idea of how one man can be rescued in the nick of time by a Spartan or otherwise and end up living another ten years. The difference between a dead rookie and a soon-to-be grizzled Sergeant is just one man, or just one lucky break, or choice. That lucky break caught up with O'Brian when he encountered the Flood. I thought it was handled really well, and the idea was good enough to push this one over the top.

Well done, KR1232445834905743676. Keep it up!

Cheers,
Azrael

Hey, thanks! Very Happy This and my other story with O'Brian were two of my favorite stories that I've written. Granted, I don't have too much compared to a lot of people here... Razz

And sorry about the username. I'm a bit unoriginal, so I just end up using my initials and numbers. Embarassed

Edit: And it didn't even occur to me before, but you posted this on my birthday. Very Happy

I'm still suprised people remember an old fart like me anymore. I've been tempted to write recently. Mayble I'll dust off the old fingers and give it a shot soon.

Darn so close, yet so far... Looks like I am going to have to boost up the descriptions for the next chapter.

There should be a pinned topic for this and keep track in chronological of all the fan fics of the week or something.
